- Common causes on Squarespace stores are a site that isn't public, template content left in place, and policies or contact details that are hard to find.
- Most fixes are in your Squarespace settings, the footer editor and each product's details.
- Squarespace connects to Google through its built-in Google Shopping integration, so fix the data in Squarespace and let it sync.
- Once fixed, request the review in Merchant Center.
Why Squarespace stores get suspended
Google applies the same rules to every store. But the way Squarespace stores are usually set up leads to the same problems again and again:
Site not public
New Squarespace sites start as Private, and trial sites can't be made public. A password-protected or private site can't be reviewed, and making a site public needs a paid plan.
Template content left in place
Squarespace templates come with sample pages, text, images and products. Google warns against placeholder text and missing pages.
Policies hard to find
Squarespace doesn't create policy pages for you. Many stores add them at checkout but never publish them as pages shoppers can find.
Contact details missing
Business information you add in settings is used in some places, but it may not appear on your pages, depending on your template.
Missing brand and barcodes
Squarespace has SKU, GTIN and MPN fields, but Google also needs a brand for products that have one, including your own brand for products you make.
Prices or shipping out of step
Sale prices, currency or shipping rates that differ between your site and Merchant Center.
Website not verified
Merchant Center needs to verify and claim your website. Squarespace's integration gives you a tag to paste into your site header if it isn't verified yet.
Where to fix each one in Squarespace
| What to fix | Where in Squarespace |
|---|---|
| Making the site public | Settings, then Site availability, then Public |
| Phone, email and business location | Settings, then Selling, then Business Information |
| Footer details and policy links | Edit any page, hover over the footer, then Edit footer |
| Policy pages | Pages: add them (Not Linked works), then link them from the footer |
| Homepage description in search results | SEO settings, then Search appearance, then Home, then SEO site description |
| Page titles and descriptions | Pages, then the gear icon on a page, then the SEO tab |
| SKU, GTIN and MPN | Edit a product, then Inventory (or Variants for products with options) |
| Shipping rates | Shipping settings, then Add shipping option |
| Store currency | Payments settings, then Store currency |
Squarespace's Google Shopping integration syncs your physical products to Merchant Center. If a price or description is wrong, change it in Squarespace and let it sync. You choose which products show on Google from inside Merchant Center.
Squarespace adds product and business markup to your pages automatically and you can't edit it. So if Google reports a price mismatch, look at the visible price, sale settings and currency first.

Step-by-step fix for Squarespace
- 1
Find the issue
In Merchant Center, go to Products, then Needs attention, then View setup and policy issues. Note the policy named. Squarespace's Google panel also shows your sync status.
- 2
Make your site public
In Settings, Site availability, choose Public. This needs a paid plan; trial sites can't be reviewed.
- 3
Show who you are
Add your phone, email and location in Settings, Selling, Business Information. Then add your business name, address, phone and email to the Contact page and footer.
- 4
Publish real policies
Create pages for refunds and returns, delivery, privacy and terms with your real return window, costs and times. Not Linked pages work, as long as you link them from the footer.
- 5
Link the policies in your footer
Edit any page, select Edit footer and add links to each policy page and the Contact page, then Save.
- 6
Complete products, prices and delivery
Add SKU, GTIN and MPN in each product's Inventory. Check that prices, sale prices and currency match Merchant Center, and that your shipping options match your delivery page. Remove sample products and template text.
- 7
Scan, then request a review
Run a free scan to check for anything you've missed, then request a review in Merchant Center. The full report gives Squarespace steps for the issues it finds.
