## Why Squarespace stores get suspended

Google applies the same rules to every store. But the way Squarespace stores are usually set up leads to the same problems again and again:

### Site not public

New Squarespace sites start as Private, and trial sites can't be made public. A password-protected or private site can't be reviewed, and making a site public needs a paid plan.
- What can raise concerns: Site availability still Private or Password protected.
- What works: Site availability set to Public on a paid plan.

### Template content left in place

Squarespace templates come with sample pages, text, images and products. Google warns against placeholder text and missing pages.
- What can raise concerns: A sample product or demo text on a page you forgot about.
- What works: Only your real products and content.

### Policies hard to find

Squarespace doesn't create policy pages for you. Many stores add them at checkout but never publish them as pages shoppers can find.
- What can raise concerns: No refund or delivery page, or pages that aren't linked anywhere.
- What works: Refunds, Delivery, Privacy and Terms pages, linked from the footer.

### Contact details missing

Business information you add in settings is used in some places, but it may not appear on your pages, depending on your template.
- What can raise concerns: A contact form and nothing else.
- What works: Business name, address, phone and email on the Contact page and in the footer.

### Missing brand and barcodes

Squarespace has SKU, GTIN and MPN fields, but Google also needs a brand for products that have one, including your own brand for products you make.
- What can raise concerns: Branded products sent with no barcode or brand.
- What works: Barcodes added, and brand checked in Merchant Center.

### Prices or shipping out of step

Sale prices, currency or shipping rates that differ between your site and Merchant Center.
- What can raise concerns: Free delivery over £40 on the site, a flat £3.95 in Merchant Center.
- What works: The same prices, costs and times everywhere.

### Website not verified

Merchant Center needs to verify and claim your website. Squarespace's integration gives you a tag to paste into your site header if it isn't verified yet.
- What can raise concerns: Verification tag removed or never added.
- What works: Website verified and claimed in Merchant Center.

## Where to fix each one in Squarespace

| What to fix | Where in Squarespace |
| --- | --- |
| Making the site public | Settings, then Site availability, then Public |
| Phone, email and business location | Settings, then Selling, then Business Information |
| Footer details and policy links | Edit any page, hover over the footer, then Edit footer |
| Policy pages | Pages: add them (Not Linked works), then link them from the footer |
| Homepage description in search results | SEO settings, then Search appearance, then Home, then SEO site description |
| Page titles and descriptions | Pages, then the gear icon on a page, then the SEO tab |
| SKU, GTIN and MPN | Edit a product, then Inventory (or Variants for products with options) |
| Shipping rates | Shipping settings, then Add shipping option |
| Store currency | Payments settings, then Store currency |

> **Fix the source, not the feed.** Squarespace's Google Shopping integration syncs your physical products to Merchant Center. If a price or description is wrong, change it in Squarespace and let it sync. You choose which products show on Google from inside Merchant Center.

> **Structured data is handled for you.** Squarespace adds product and business markup to your pages automatically and you can't edit it. So if Google reports a price mismatch, look at the visible price, sale settings and currency first.

## Step-by-step fix for Squarespace

1. **Find the issue.** In Merchant Center, go to Products, then Needs attention, then View setup and policy issues. Note the policy named. Squarespace's Google panel also shows your sync status.
2. **Make your site public.** In Settings, Site availability, choose Public. This needs a paid plan; trial sites can't be reviewed.
3. **Show who you are.** Add your phone, email and location in Settings, Selling, Business Information. Then add your business name, address, phone and email to the Contact page and footer.
4. **Publish real policies.** Create pages for refunds and returns, delivery, privacy and terms with your real return window, costs and times. Not Linked pages work, as long as you link them from the footer.
5. **Link the policies in your footer.** Edit any page, select Edit footer and add links to each policy page and the Contact page, then Save.
6. **Complete products, prices and delivery.** Add SKU, GTIN and MPN in each product's Inventory. Check that prices, sale prices and currency match Merchant Center, and that your shipping options match your delivery page. Remove sample products and template text.
7. **Scan, then request a review.** Run a [free scan](https://www.certanza.app/) to check for anything you've missed, then request a review in Merchant Center. The full report gives Squarespace steps for the issues it finds.

- Policies at checkout but no policy pages on the site
- Contact details your template doesn't show anywhere
- Missing brand for branded or own-made products
- Currency mismatches between your product data and storefront
- The Merchant Center verification tag removed from your site header
- Policy text copied from another store, still naming their business
- Delivery times that differ between product pages, the FAQ and your delivery page
- Tracking pixels running without cookie consent
- Dropshipping warning signs that can raise concerns

## Common questions

### Does Squarespace cause Merchant Center suspensions?

No. Google applies the same rules to every store. But some Squarespace defaults make problems common, such as sites staying private and policies never being published as pages.

### Does Squarespace connect to Merchant Center directly?

Yes. Squarespace has a built-in Google Shopping integration on its Core, Plus, Advanced and Commerce plans. It syncs your physical products to Merchant Center and helps verify your site.

### Where do I request the review?

In Merchant Center, from the issue under Products, Needs attention. Fix everything first: repeated unsuccessful reviews can mean waiting longer before you can ask again.

### Squarespace has no brand field. Is that a problem?

Google needs a brand for products that have one, including products you make yourself, where your store name is the brand. Check Merchant Center for missing brand warnings and add the brand there if needed.

### Do I need a developer to fix this?

Usually not. Almost everything in this guide can be changed in your Squarespace settings, the footer editor and your products.
